Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for mechanically opening a heat-bonded connection site between two hollow, flexible, thermoplastic segments of a medical fluid flow path, the heat-bonded connection site having an axis. The connection site is compressed between two facing surfaces, and the facing surfaces are relatively moved to rotate the connection site about the connection site axis and to apply force to the connection site substantially perpendicular to the connection site axis.

Abstract: The method for welding profiled elements in plastic material, in particular PVC, comprises the steps of: - preparing two profiled elements (3; 3a, 3b; 60, 61), arranged with respective zones to be welded (4; 62, 63) facing one another; - making a groove (19) in correspondence to at least one zone to be welded (4; 62, 63) of the profiled elements (3; 3a, 3b; 60, 61), the step of making the groove (19) being performed by means of a removal operation on a peripheral edge of at least one profiled element (3; 3a, 3b; 60, 61); - heating the zones to be welded (4; 62, 63); - coupling the zones to be welded (4; 62, 63) to one another, pressing the profiled elements (3; 3a, 3b; 60, 61) one against the other so as to keep the zones to be welded (4; 62, 63) in reciprocal contact; - the step of coupling the zones to be welded (4; 62, 63) comprising: - a sub-step of melting the zones to be welded (4; 62, 63) into one another in order to define a welding bead; - a sub-step of making a containing compartment (19a) defined by the groove (19), the welding bead being made internally of the containing compartment (19a); and - the step of arranging a containing presser (27) in correspondence to the containing compartment (19a) for preventing exit of the welding bead from the compartment itself.

Abstract: A method for welding at least two profiles (12, 14, 54, 56, 58, 60) is described in order to form a frame portion (48) wherein two profiles (12, 14, 54, 56, 58, 60) to be welded via welding surfaces (32) are provided. The welding surfaces (32) of the profiles (12, 14, 54, 56, 58, 60) are heated via a heating unit (20) having at least one heating surface (40) that faces at least one welding surface (32) of the profiles (12, 14, 54, 56, 58, 60). A relative movement between the heating surface (40) and at least one welding surface (32) is effected in a welding plane (W) being substantially parallel to the at least one welding surface (32) while the heating surface (40) facing the welding surface (32). The profiles (12, 14, 54, 56, 58, 60) are coupled via their heated welding surfaces (32) to form the frame portion (48). Further, a device (10) for welding at least two profiles (12, 14, 54, 56, 58, 60) is described.

Abstract: A structural assembly (900) and method of fabricating the same, the method comprising: providing a first member (204) comprising a bond surface (800) and a plurality of protrusions (802) extending from the bond surface (800), a length of each of the protrusions (802) from the bond surface being less than or equal to 2mm; providing a second member (202) comprising a fibre-reinforced composite material, the fibre-reinforced composite material comprising a plurality of elongate fibres (902) embedded in a polymer matrix (904); while the polymer matrix (904) is in its plastic state, forcing the second member a(202) gainst the bond surface (800) and the protrusions (802) so as to cause the second member (202) to form onto the bond surface (800) and the protrusions (802); and thereafter causing the polymer matrix (904) to harden, thereby fixing the first member (204) to the bond surface of the second member (202).

Abstract: This method for manufacturing a bonded structure is a method for manufacturing a bonded structure in which a metal member and a resin member have been bonded together, the metal member having a protrusion on a surface thereof, the method being provided with: a step of forming perforations having an opening in a bonding region of the protrusion; a step of making the resin member come in contact with the bonding region of the protrusion of the metal member under pressurization in a state in which the resin member is separated from the surface of the metal member; and a step of melting the resin member in contact with the bonding region of the metal member and solidifying the melted resin member after the perforations have become filled with the resin.

Abstract: A composition and method for making polymeric foam comprising nanocellular domains is provided. The nanocellular domains in the polymeric foam increase the R-value of the polymeric foam product and improve thermal insulation performance. The polymeric foam having the nanocellular domains may be formed using a carbon dioxide-based blowing agent. The polymeric foam having the nanocellular domains can be produced on production- scale equipment in amounts suitable for large-scale applications.
