Thus, there is the effect of preventing the occurrence of erroneous operations of the cathode ray tube and peripheral units and adverse effects on the human body, e.g., electric shock due to the charged static electricity on the panel surface (2), and there is another effect that the implosion protective adhesive glass tape (5) or the member interposed between the conductive coating (1) and the metal reinforcement (4) is equivalent to lead wires thus eliminating the use of lead wires and thereby eliminating the provisions of complicated connections to the panel surface (2).

    摘要: A resin bonding system (14) which bonds a substantially flat implosion protection panel (12) to the nominally flat faceplate (10) of a flat tension mask CRT tube and is cured by exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The resin bonding system is designed for differential adhesion so that the faceplate separates more easily from the resin than does the implosion protection panel, thus achieving superior implosion per­formance. It also incorporates a contrast-enhancing neutral density agent, preferably confined to a flat layer adjacent to and adhered to the flat surface of the implosion panel in order to achieve uniform neutral density filtration across the face of the tube. The neutral density agent is prefer­ably an organic dye. Because the nominally flat faceplate is actually somewhat concave after evacuation of the tube, con­fining the neutral density agent to the layer which adheres to the flat faceplate avoids mottling of the CRT picture which would otherwise result from changes in the thickness of the pigmented layer across the face of the CRT.

    摘要: A cathode-ray tube comprising an envelope including a glass faceplate panel (27) and an adjoining glass funnel (25) sealed to the panel, is provided with protection against the effects of implosion by means of an elastomeric coating (39) of polyurethane disposed around and adhered to external surfaces of the envelope. This mode of implosion protection is easier and cheaper to manufacture, especially in mass production, than is the prior art provision of an encircling rigid coating of plastic-impregnated fiber or fabric. The coating (39) is preferably produced by applying, drying and curing a coating of an aqueous emulsion of polyurethane on the desired external surfaces of the tube. The coating may extend from the panel (27) as far back on the adjoining funnel (25) as desired, and as far forward on the panel sidewall (29) and over the viewing window as desired. The polyurethane coating (39) may be used in combination with a metal tension band.
