摘要: A modular patient care system (100) having a central management unit module, and one or more detachable functional units (104), is described. Using unique mechanical, and electrical features the modular patient care system is capable of flexibly, bilaterally, safely providing electrical power from the central management unit to the attached functional units with exposed power leads of end units being electrically isolated for safety, and security. The modular patient care system (100) provides for a modular connection arrangement wherein modules are detachably connected to each other in a convenient, flexible, interchangeable secured manner by providing a hinge connector pair, a specially located latch mechanisms, and a guide means between any pair of modules.

摘要: An interlock, latching and retaining mechanism for use in an infusion system, embodying a latch arm mounted to a rotatable shaft having a plurality of cams and gears attached thereto, a rectangular faceplate with a pluraltiy of apertures formed therethrough, and a clamp. Rotating the latch arm functions to engage fluid monitoring, flow control and pumping structure of the infusion system with a pumping segment for control of fluid flow through the segment and also causes the clamp to hold the pumping segmemt in a required position. In another aspect, rotation of the latch arm additionally causes an air-in-line sensor to rotate into position on the pumping segment.

摘要: A power management system automatically manages the power to operate a biomedical device, such as an infusion pump containing an internal battery. When external power is available, the management system operates the biomedical device from the external power and controls a recharger to maintain the battery at full charge. The power management system automatically calculates battery charge status and use and provides a run time display of the calculated amount of time that the battery can operate the biomedical device under current power requirements of the biomedical device. The power management system automatically updates the calculated charge status of the battery as well as the calculated capacity of the battery based on environmental factors and battery characteristics. The power management system automatically and periodically performs a deep discharge/recharge cycle to refresh the battery.

摘要: A pumping mechanism (42) moving in movement increments (80) is controlled to space those movement increments in direct proportion to the volume (76) resulting from each movement increment. In a further aspect, movement increments are grouped to result in approximately equal volumes per group. The mechanism moves continuously through the movement increments in each group. Groups are spaced to result in approximately equal flow volumes per group. The number of groups decreases as the flow rate increases. The number of movement increments in each group and the volume of each group increase as the flow rate increases.

摘要: A medical connector assembly (26) comprises a connector body (30) having a fluid passage there through, a valve member (32), and means, responsive to a compressive force placed on the medical connector, for permitting a fluid to freely communicate between openings in the connector body. The valve member (32) can be constructed using a single element having a slit therein or it can be constructed using two separate halves which when joined together form an interface slit. In a preferred embodiment, when a compressive force is exerted against the connector body, sufficient distortion is experienced by the valve member (32) to open the slit and permit fluid flow between connector body openings.

摘要: A method and device for rapidly predicting the temperature of an object through a sensor reading of the object's temperature by using a processor comprising finite impulse response (FIR) filters to determine the average value, the first derivative, and the second derivative of the sensed temperature based upon a predetermined number of temperature samples, apply a respective weighting factor to each of the average value, the first derivative, and the second derivative respectively, and calculate a temperature estimate by combining the weighted average value, the first derivative, and second derivative together with an offset factor.

摘要: A system and method for rapidly preheating the probe of a thermometer to a temperature closer to the temperature of a patient to be measured. The system comprises a probe heater, a probe temperature sensor, a power source, and a processor for controlling the delivery of energy from the power source to the heater. The processor adds an offset to the drive level to the heater which is dependent on the ambient temperature and the power source voltage to achieve more rapid heater responses. The processor maintains control over the drive level applied to the heater in accordance with the temperature sensor so that at all times a closed loop system is provided.
