The present invention relates to a method for calculating the body condition score—BCS, the weight of an animal and its state of fertility by means of the mathematical processing of some characteristic morphological traits of the observed subject, which makes use of at least one contact or no-contact detection device of the profile 109 of the animal, at least a data processing unit and a program that implements a specific mathematical method of interpretation. By such a method, the determination of the body condition and its synthetic index or fattening index or FI, is independent of species, race, gender, age and absolute size of the examined animal. This method is also robust to possible errors of positioning of the apparatus by an operator.

The present invention relates to a device that has the purpose of making accurate measurements on a distant object by means of the interference of a single coherent light beam focused and continuous on the object itself. Peculiarity of the invention consists in the auto-calibration procedure in the field. A further peculiarity of the invention consists in the ability to compensate for changes in the geometry of the system due to changes in internal and environmental temperature. The invention is also characterized by the possibility of being installed on a computerized device of the portable type (e.g. smartphones and tablets). The measuring system, in its preferred form of implementation, is constituted by a laser generator (1), an infrared temperature sensor (2), an electronic control card (5) fed by means of a group of batteries (3) interfaced to a smartphone (8) through communication channel integrated in the control electronics (5). For the shot of the object to be measured the camera (6) and possibly flash (7) integrated in the smartphone (8) are used. The application software installed on the smartphone is an integral part of the system, which allows the control and synchronization of the camera, laser, sensor and temperature sensor integrated in the smartphone (i.e. accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, thermometer, hygrometer, barometer, GPS) and the 4G/3G/UMTS/GPRS communication channel.
