The polymerizable dental material is characterized in that component A, as a reactive paste former, comprises at least one organic compound a) derived from maleic acid and/or from fumaric acid and/or from itaconic acid, and/or at least one compound comprising at least one allyl and/or methallyl radical b). The polymerizable dental material has very good storability and cures rapidly after mixing of components A and B under mouth conditions, and forms cured compositions with excellent mechanical properties. These can be used particularly as a crown and bridge material or as dental cement.

Described are new pasty masses that are suitable as insert material for widening the gingival sulcus. These retraction materials contain a paste-forming agent, superabsorber particles and at least one astringent. Surprisingly, it was shown that upon contact with fluid of such a retraction material paste formulation, for one, a volume expansion is occurs due to absorbed fluid and for another, a part of the superabsorber is diffused out of the paste and/or dissolved out and that this diffused and/or dissolved part in turn leads to the immediate thickening, bonding and/or coagulation of surrounding fluids such as saliva, blood and wound secretions. The effect is hemostasis, as well as widening of the sulcus.

First and second channels (64, 66), which extend through the coupling section to the inlets (68, 70) of the mixing chamber (45), are connected to the coupling openings (55, 57). The two channels (64, 66) are configured in such a way that for the first channel (64), the length of time required by the pasty material, starting from its entry into the coupling opening (55) of the coupling section (46) until it enters the inlet (68, 70) of the mixing chamber (45) of the housing (42), is greater than in the second channel (66).
