摘要:
The present invention provides a machine and method wherein envelopes (24a) are removed from a supply hopper (22a), one by one, and then transmitted to a plurality of sequentially disposed cutting stations (312 and 114a) wherein one end edge of the envelope is first severed, and thereafter an adjacent side edge of the envelope is severed. The envelope with two adjacent edges thus severed is transmitted to a processing station at which the envelope is opened and held open by suction cups (156a and 164a), for removal of contents by an operator. The envelope is thereafter transmitted to a detector station (211 a) to confirm content removal and then to a recovery station, and then to a point of discharge. Means (320) is provided for adjusting the opening of the suction cups at the processing station, and stop means (350 and 352) is provided for positioning the envelope as it reaches the processing station. The envelope is transmitted toward the processing station in horizontal disposition, and in one form of the invention (Figs. 11, 12 and 13) at the processing station it is repositioned into angular disposition prior to the gripping action of the suction cups.
摘要:
There is disclosed a new and improved envelope processing machine. The machine includes a processing station (54) arranged to present each envelope in an opened condition to an operator in one-by-one relation to facilitate the removal of contents from or the insertion of materials into the envelopes by the operator. A detecting means (70) downstream from the processing station (54) acts upon the envelopes one at a time for sensing a predetermined event corresponding to the suspected absence of complete removal of the contents from or complete insertion of materials into the envelopes. An illumination means (80) actuable in response to the detecting means sensing the predetermined event is arranged to direct light through the envelopes to afford visual verification of the predetermined event by the operator.

The disclosure is directed to a semi-automatic mail insertion machine which assists an operator in placing materials into envelopes (26). The machine includes a horizontal conveyor (20, 21) which, under operator control, incrementally advances the envelopes (26) to be processed from one processing station to another in succession. An envelope stacker (25) is positioned above the conveyor (20, 21) and a feed means (55, 56) feeds the envelopes (26) to the conveyor (20, 21) prior to each advancement of the conveyor. The envelopes (26) are conveyed to a first process station (30) which automatically unfolds the pre-folded unsealed envelope flaps. The envelopes are then advanced to a second processing station (35) which opens the envelopes and presents the envelopes to the operator in a manner which permits ready placement of materials into the envelopes. A third processing station (45) may be provided which weighs the envelopes and the material therein to facilitate the sorting of the processed envelopes by weight.
