    摘要： A carton adapted to receive rows of articles the bottoms of which are adjacent the side panels (16, 22) of the carton. A tear strip (90, 100, 102, 108, 114, 120) encircling the carton allows the carton to be separated into smaller display packages (130, 132), each side panel (16, 22) of the carton forming the bottom panel (22') of one of the separated packages. The tear strips (90, 108) in the top and bottom panels are aligned and preferably are at an angle to the side panels (16, 22) so that the front panels (34') of the smaller display packages (130, 132) are low, enabling the first article in the smaller package to be on display. The end panels of the carton are formed of overlapping flaps (34, 36, 38, 40) which contain aligned tear strips (100, 102, 114, 120). Tuck flaps (72, 80, 82, 84) allow side panel flaps (46, 48, 54, 56) to be connected to the end panels (34, 36, 38, 40) and to be folded in to form a double layer at the side edges.

A divider (16) separating the rows includes sloped walls (18, 20) which, along with sloped wall portions (30-34) in the side panels (24, 26) of the tray, serve to support the articles. A web (82, 84) connecting an outer end flap (58, 60) to a divider wall acts as a stop member to automatically position the end of the inner end flap as the overlapping flaps are moved into position during the formation of the tray from a blank.

In addition, a tab (56) on the inner flap is inserted into the slot in the outer flap, whereby the inner flap tab urges the shoulders down so as to hold the locking mechanism in place and the edge of the slot in the outer flap holds the inner flap tab in place.

    摘要： In a machine (26) for packaging articles in a tray carton a first stationary rail section (52, 57, 70) folds up the end panels (18) of a moving tray carton blank to an intermediate position and, after the application of glue to either the end flaps (24) or the end panels (18), a third stationary rail section (56) completes the operation of folding the end panels of the moving blank up against the end flaps. A second normally stationary section (54) located between the first and third sections maintains the end panels in their intermediate positions. When the machine stops for any reason the second section moves the end panels of the tray carton located at that station into contact with the end flaps to adhere the end panels to the end flaps of the stationary tray carton.

The fold lines (56) connecting the end tuck flaps to the center tuck flap contain cutouts (58), one edge of which comprises part of an edge of the center tuck flap and overlies the top of an article in the carrier to lock the tuck flaps and the end panels in place. The other cutout edge comprises part of an edge of the end tuck flaps and is positioned to contact the side of an article to stabilize the structure.
