摘要: Driving power for a vibrating device (10) is provided at less than full level when the device is initially used. Power is gradually increased in successive steps after a selected number of uses in each step until full power is achieved. Also, a battery-energized driving signal for a vibrating device has a selected characteristic, such as duty cycle, which is set initially at less than an optimum value, when the battery which is contained within the driver assembly (22) is at full strengh. As the battery discharges, the selected characteristic is adjusted toward optimum so as to compensate for reduction in the battery voltage and ensure full power output.

摘要: A brushhead (12) for a toothbrush (10) having a particular bristle configuration which includes a plurality of bristle tufts arranged in three columns (106-108) and nine rows (112-120), wherein the distal end two adjacent rows (112, 113) and the proximal end two adjacent rows (119, 120) and an intermediate row (116, 117) have longer bristles than the remaining bristle tuft rows (114, 115, 118). The distal, intermediate and proximal bristle tuft rows all have pointed tips (140) (in the lateral direction) and beveled outside edges (131) at the top portion thereof. The shorter bristle tuft rows also have beveled outside edges (134). The shorter bristle tuft rows between the distal and intermediate rows have angled top surfaces (132) in addition to the beveled outside edges.

摘要: The fluid delivery/refilling system includes a unit-of-use fluid reservoir for dentifrice or medication within a head portion of a power toothbrush, which is removable from the remainder thereof. A pump element is located in the brushhead and is configured so that the back and forth movement of the brushhead in operation results in fluid moving from the reservoir to a dispensing valve located in the brushhead. The dispensing valve has an end portion which is normally closed, opening under pressure of fluid from the pump. The refilling assembly is separated from the toothbrush and is configured to fit over the top of the toothbrush. A pump used in a power toothbrush for fluid delivery to the bristles. The pump includes a pump chamber with a piston ball located therein. The pump includes a fluid exit channel which connects the discharge end of the pump chamber with an opening in the brushhead in which the dispensing valve is located.

摘要: A power toothbrush (10) has a brushhead (13) mounted at one end thereof, the brushhead (13) including a base mounting element (20) for bristles (22) which extend from one surface (43) thereof. Extending from the opposing surface of the base mounting element (20) is a pressure contact member (64). A substantially rigid brushhead shield (32) extends along and is adjacent to the opposing surface of the brushhead (13). The brushhead (13) has a hinge-like portion (28) which permits the brushhead (13) to move or swivel in response to pressure being placed on the brushhead (13), while the brushhead (13) is moving back and forth at its operating frequency of its normal brushing action at over 150 Hz. Thin electrical switch contacts (44), which are part of an electrical circuit (50), are positioned on the brush shield (32), spaced from the contact member (64) on the brushhead (13). When sufficient pressure is applied against the brushhead (13), the brushhead (13) moves sufficiently about the hinge (28), while also continuing to move in normal action that the pressure contact member (64) comes into contact with and then closes the switch contacts (44), closing the electrical circuit (50) and resulting in a visual indication (58, 59) that the brushhead (13) pressure has exceeded the maximum limit for desirable brushing pressure.
