    摘要: A method for extending resin-based wood glues, particularly condensation polymer resin-based glues, comprises the steps of (i) providing an aqueous extender composition comprising 20% to 50% by weight of alkali metal silicate and 1 % to 25% by weight of polyhydric alcohol, preferably a sugar such as sucrose, (ii) providing a solution comprising a resin and (iii) blending the aqueous extender and the solution together to form a glue. The extended glues are suitable for preparing water resistant processed wooden panels such as plywood or chipboard with reduced need for resin. The extended glues do not set excessively rapidly, allowing time for the processing of the wood composites.

    摘要: A curable liquid composition, such as an alkyd paint or resin, contains a binder curable by oxidative crosslinking, a siccative compound for catalysing oxidative crosslinking of the binder, and a matting agent. The matting agent is a precipitated silica, with a surface area, measured by BET, of 250 m2/g or less, a precipitated metal silicate such as Ca, Mg or Al silicate, or a mixture, and may be amorphous in nature. The siccative compound is a transition metal chelate complex comprising a ligand, such as an iron- or a manganese-based chelate complex. The compositions are capable of oxidative curing, within acceptable times, to form a cured solid, such as a coating, having a matt finish.

    摘要: A method for preparing a catalyst precursor for an olefin polymerization catalyst involves the use of aqueous or alcoholic solutions of a chromium salt and of boric acid and aluminium carboxylate for deposition onto an inorganic support material, such as a silica xerogel. The chromium salt, aluminium carboxylate and boric acid are sufficiently soluble for deposition from a single solution to be effective. The catalyst precursor can be activated by calcination to form a catalyst for homo- or co-polymerisation of α-olefins which has productivity and melt flow index for the resulting polymer or copolymer which is comparable to results obtained with catalysts prepared by prior art organometallic routes. The activation of the catalyst precursor gives reduced levels of toxic or noxious fumes during activation compared to use of organometallic sources of chromium or aluminium.
