摘要: A yarn winding apparatus comprises two clutches (20,21), the input sides of which are continuously driven in opposed directions by a motor (18) or by respective motors (18,19). At any given moment one of the clutches (20) is engaged whilst the other (21) is disengaged, so that yarn traversing apparatus (13,14) is driven in a first direction to move the yarn (12) in one direction along a traverse path to a predetermined end of stroke location, whereupon a control device (22) causes disengagement of the one clutch (20) and engagement of the other clutch (21) to drive the yarn traversing apparatus (13,14) in the opposite direction and hence the yarn (12) in the reverse direction along the traverse path.
Preferably the clutches (20,21) are electrorheological fluid or magneto-rheological suspension clutches, each of which is coupled to a respective one of two spaced pulleys (15,16) around which travels an endless band (14), having a traversing yarn guide (13) thereon. 摘要: A yarn heating arrangement disposed in a straight yarn path crimping zone of a yarn texturing machine (10) comprises a first heater (32) which is maintained at a temperature in excess of the yarn's (13) crimp setting temperature, and may be above the melting temperature of the yarn (13),and heats the yarn (13) rapidly by radiation to a temperature of between 85% and 98% of its crimp setting temperature, and a smoothing heater plate (31) contacted by the yarn and maintained at the crimp setting temperature in order to heat the yarn (13) to that temperature. The overall length of the two heaters (31, 32) is less than that of a conventional contact plate heater, but they provide equivalent yarn temperature control which is greater than that provided by a high temperature non-contact heater alone. The heaters (31,32) are located between a twist-stop (23) and a false- twisting device (17) of the texturing machine (10).

摘要: A yarn texturing machine (10) having an air jet (24) for combining and texturing at least two yarns (15, 16) to form a single textured yarn (30), comprises respective yarn feed and drawing devices (17, 18, 19, 20) for each yarn (15, 16). To give good control of the yarns (15, 16) in the low tension region upstream of the jet (24) the drawing devices (19, 20) are positioned relative to the jet (24) and each other so that the yarns (15, 16) travelling to the jet (24) travel along straight, spaced yarn paths which converge at the jet (24) at an angle of between 70 o and 50 o , and lie in a plane inclined at between 60 o and 90 o to the axis of the jet (24). After the jet (24) the textured yarn (30) is passed upwardly then downwardly over a setting heater (33) located above the jet (24) and then to wind-up means (36) disposed beneath the jet (24).

摘要: Apparatus for applying liquid to a running yarn (12) in a textile machine comprises a hollow body (28) providing a manifold (20) for the liquid and an elongate tube (33) extending horizontally across the manifold (20). The tube (33) is retained to a bore (32) in the body (28) by a yarn guide (29) which is detachably secured to the body (28) and the bore in tube (33) communicates with a groove yarn path (38) provided by the yarn guide (29) via a bore (31) in the yarn guide (29) of larger diameter than the bore in the tube (33). The constant supply of liquid to the yarn (12) is provided by the controlled flow of liquid along the tube (33) whose length is at least 100 times the diameter of the bore therein. A height adjustable weir (17) in a liquid supply tank (16) supplies liquid to the manifold (20) at a predetermined pressure. The yarn path (38) has a plurality of yarn contact points (39,40) to ensure complete application of liquid by the yarn (12).

摘要: In a yarn false twist texturing process in which yarn (17) is passed through heating and cooling zones (14, 15) to a false twist device (16), the yarn (17) is passed in a helical path around a cylinder (19) at opposed ends of which yarn guides (26, 27) are disposed to provide the helical path, preferably through the cooling zone (15). In order to raise the surge speed at which the process becomes unstable, at least one of the yarn guides (26) is positionally adjustable relative to another guide (27) and/or a third guide (23) is located between the other two (26, 27) so as to increase the helix angle of the yarn path and the effective angle of wrap around a cylindrical cooling device (19) on which the guides (23, 26, 27) are mounted. The cooling cylinder (19) may be a tube to which suction (22) is applied to draw fumes from the yarn (17) as it passes over a port (21) in the tube (19) and to draw ambient air into the tube (19) to assist the cooling effect. The non-abrupt changes in direction of the yarn path allows the twist to run back through the cooling and heating zones (15, 14).

When a package (15) has been fully wound, the yarn (16) running onto the package (15) is displaced from the traverse device (18) and is cut. In the case of a package (15) of acceptable quality, the operation of the cutting device (29) is delayed relative to that for reject quality packages (15), so that in the former case a larger central yam winding or "belly-band" (35) is wound on the package (15) than in the case of reject packages (15). The reject packages (15) with the large belly-band (35) can readily be segregated from the acceptable packages (15).

摘要: A textile machine (11) has an arrangement (10) for transferring full packages (16) of processed yarn from the winding position to a store and removal position without rolling and thereby unwinding the end of the yarn from the package (16). A control arrangement (44) moves the cradle (12) from the winding position to a package brake position and then to an open position, where the package (16) is transferred to a first transfer device (20). This is then moved from its package receiving position, via a park position, to a transfer position at which the package (16) is transferred to a second transfer device (21). The second transfer device (21) is then moved to a store position. A tube loading device (22) is then operated to supply a new tube (15) to the cradle (12), and the cradle (12), the first (20) and second (21) transfer devices and the tube loading device (22) are moved to their respective positions for winding of a new package (16) to commence.
