A method is proposed for identifying a chemical substance from a set of output states provided by a chemical sensor array being exposed to the chemical substance. The method comprises steps for selecting from a set of class descriptions for different chemical substances a first class description and one or more further class descriptions, whereby the first class description is related to a first chemical substance and a further class description is related to a further chemical substance, estimating a first likelihood value and one or more further likelihood values, whereby the first likelihood value represents a probability that the set of output states corresponds to the first class description, and a respective further likelihood value represents a probability that the set of output states corresponds to a respective further class description, and determining from the estimated first and further likelihood values the class description with the highest likelihood value. Hereby an estimation of a first and/or further likelihood value combines the likelihood values estimated for at least two subsets of the set of output states corresponding to the first and/or further class description, respectively.

The design of a video processing core designed for processing video signals of a specific video format requires a high expense. It is therefore desirable to be able to use such a video processing core for other video formats as well. The invention relates to a method for connecting a mobile terminal to a wireless communication system, comprising the steps of sending by a central controller (1) a master beacon (6) containing information on the time frame structure of the wireless communication system and receiving the master beacon (6) by a first mobile terminal (2). Hereby, the method comprises the steps of generating a modified copy (7) of the received master beacon (6) by said first mobile terminal (2) and relaying the modified copy (7) to a second mobile terminal (3) in order to synchronise the second mobile terminal (3) to the time frame structure. The invention further relates to a wireless communication system on which the steps of the method are executed and to a mobile terminal having means for executing the steps of the method.
