The invention relates to a method of operating a twin-roll casting machine for casting molten metal, in particular molten steel, into cast strip (B), which has two casting rolls (2,3), which are rotationally driven in opposite directions about a respective rotation axis (D2,D3) and define between them a casting gap (4) at its longitudinal sides, and comprising side plates (5, 6) which can be advanced to the casting rolls (2,3) and seal the casting gap (4) at its narrow sides during the casting operation owing to the fact that they bear against the end faces of the casting rolls (2, 3) by means of a refractory material in such a way as to bridge the casting gap (4), wherein, during the casting operation, the side plates (5,6) are moved in a direction (Z) which is oriented parallel to the conveying direction (F) in which the cast strip (B) leaves the casting gap (4). In such a method, with increased reliability, the production of grooves disturbing the casting result and the casting operation can be inhibited and the service life of the side plates can be increased compared with the prior art owing to the fact that the movement of the side plates (5,6), according to the invention, in the direction (Z) oriented parallel to the conveying direction (F) of the cast strip (B) is carried out continuously from the start of the casting operation as a function of the casting speed with which the cast strip (B) leaves the casting gap (4).

The inventive method permits a cost-effective production of a steel strip (W) or sheet, which consists predominantly of Mn-austenite and which has increased resistance in comparison to the strips or sheets in prior art. To this end, a steel is melted, said steel containing at least the following alloy components (in wt. %): 15.00 24.00 % Cr, 5.00 12.00 % Mn, 0.10 0.60 % N, 0.01 0.2 % C, max. 3.00 % Al and/or Si, max. 0.07 % P, max. 0.05 % S, max. 0.5 % Nb, max. 0.5 % V, max. 3.0 % Ni, max. 5.0 % Mo, max. 2.0 % Cu, the remainder being made up of iron and unavoidable impurities. Said steel is cast in a casting gap formed between two rotating rollers (2,3) or cylinders into a thin strip (D) with a maximum thickness of 10 mm. The rollers or cylinders (2,3) are cooled to such an extent that the thin strip (D) in the casting gap (4) cools at a speed of at least 200 K/s.

The invention relates to a continuous casting roll for casting molten baths, especially steel molten baths. Said casting roll comprises a roll barrel (2) consisting of a metallic material, to which a layer (4) of metallic material is applied, the metallic material of the layer having a higher hardness than that of the roll barrel (2). The inventive continuous casting roll has a longer service life and improved properties for use. This is achieved by providing the layer (4) with lower hardness over its thickness in its region adjacent to the roll barrel (2) than in the region of its free surface (5).

Die Erfindung betrifft einen kostengünstig herstellbaren nichtrostenden Stahl, der auch bei konventioneller Kaltumformung unempfindlich gegen die Entstehung von Spannungsrissen ist, sowie ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von spannungsrißfreien, kaltumgeformten Bauteilen. Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Stahl wird anstelle des einphasigen rein austenitischen Gefüges ein zweiphasiges Mischgefüge vorgesehen, bei dem durch Zulegieren von Si und/oder Mo und teilweise unter Absenkung des Ni-Gehaltes bzw. durch Austausch von Ni durch Cu die Austenit- (A) und Ferrit- (F) Anteile eingestellt sind. Der Austenit wird dabei soweit stabilisiert, daß die Martensitbildung bei Verformung nicht mehr zu Spannungsrissen führt.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zum Vergießen von Metallschmelzen, insbesondere Stahlschmelzen, zu gegossenem Bandes (B) mit im Gießbetrieb gegenläufig rotierenden Gießwalzen (2,3), welche die Längsseiten eines zwischen ihnen gebildeten Gießspalts (4) begrenzen, mit einem Förderweg (6) zum Abtransport des gegossenen, aus dem Gießspalt (4) austretenden Bands (B), mit einer Gießwalzenabschirmung (9), in die das aus dem Gießspalt (4) austretende Band (B) durch eine Eintrittsöffnung (15) eintritt, wobei die Gießwalzenabschirmung (9) eine Kühlzone (K) umgrenzt, in der während des Gießbetriebes eine Temperatur herrscht, die niedriger ist als die Temperatur der vom gegossenen Band (B) erwärmten Gase. Die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung und das Verfahren ermöglichen es, die Belastung durch die von dem gegossenen Band abgegebenen Wärme zu reduzieren.

The invention also relates to a system which is suitable for the production of hot-rolled metal strips, wherein despite the small amount of space available, the rolling stock can be heated in an optimum manner for the hot-rolling. As a result, the inventive device is fitted with at least one warming device (10, 11, 12, 13) working in an inductive manner. Said device comprises an inductor (14, 15, 16, 17) inducing an electromagnetic field and the inductor extends over the conveying path of the metal strip (3) which is to be warmed and the position thereof can be adjusted transversal to the conveying path according to the width of the metal strip.

The invention relates to a device for casting a molten metal, said device comprising casting rolls (2, 3) and a housing (9) arranged downstream from the same for the cast strip. The aim of the invention is to be able to replace the casting rolls with minimum mounting means, and to simultaneously reduce the thermal load of the casting rolls (2, 3) and the adjacent units. In order to achieve this, the inventive device is provided with a casting roll screen (10) which forms a displaceable structural unit with a frame (25) used to support the casting rolls (2, 3).
