The invention relates to a method of active attenuation of pressure pulsation in the stock fed into the headbox (10) of a paper or board machine in such a way that the pressure pulsations in the stock are measured and the water flow to be fed into the stock is controlled on the basis of the results of the measurement. The volume available for the stock flow is controlled by means of water flow changes. Pressure variations achieved by volume variations are arranged substantially in opposition in relation to the pressure variations to be attenuated thus attenuating the pressure variations in the stock. The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the above method. The apparatus comprises a sensor (6) or a set of sensors, on the basis of whose output signal/signals a regulator (7) has been arranged to automatically control the water flow to be fed into the stock by an adequately fast valve arrangement (1) moved by the controlling element (2) of the regulator (7).

The invention relates to a method for lining a roll or the like, particularly a press roll of a paper or pulp machine, where a metal shell, prestressed to a controlled degree, is fitted round and against a metal body. The length of a shell plate (3) is dimensioned depending on the diameter of a roll body (1) in the way that a gap (5) will be left in the longitudinal joint (4) of a shell (2) at the initial stage of the lining. When the shell plate (3) is being heated by a heating element (6), thermal expansion of the shell plate occurs while at the same time it is tightened in such a way that the gap (5) is diminished. After this the longitudinal joint (4) is welded. Finally the shell plate (3) is allowed to cool down, whereby it contracts and tightens to the desired tightness round and against the roll body (1).

The invention is related to a method for adjusting the knife clearance in sheet cutters. In a sheet cutter, the web material is cut by means of a cutter drum (1) rotated by drive means (4) and provided with cutting knives. and a counter knife (5) disposed in a knife support (6) and positioned at knife clearance distance from the moving cutting knives. In the method according to the invention, the cutting forces acting on the cutting knives of the sheet cutters, or their effect on the structure of the sheet cutter during its operation, are measured, and the information from the measurement is used as a command variable for the knife clearance. The command variable can be determined in several different ways, and according to one embodiment of the invention, it is determined by measuring the vibration level of the structure of the sheet cutter due to the cutting forces. The invention is also related to an apparatus for carrying out the method.

The pulp suspension forming an intermediate layer (11) is supplied onto said web layer, which is already formed, in or in front of a tapering gap (6) constituted by the first wire and a second, outer wire (4). Both of the wires and the web layers (11, 12) between them are guided over a curved surface (3). After this the first wire and both of the web layers are guided against a third wire (8) onto the horizontal section of which the pulp suspension forming the other surface layer (13) is supplied. The consistency of the pulp suspension forming the intermediate layer (11) is remarkably higher than that of the pulp suspensions forming the surface layers (12, 13).
