Embodiments described herein provide for a distributed antenna system including a host unit and an active antenna unit (AAU). The AAU is configured to wirelessly communicate with, and to receive uplink radio frequency (RF) signals from, one or more wireless devices. The AAU is further configured to sample the uplink RF signals to generate digitized RF data. The AAU includes an Ethernet interface for receiving Internet Protocol (IP) formatted data from an IP device coupled to the Ethernet interface. The AAU is configured to transport the digitized RF data and the IP formatted data over a transport signal to the host unit, the transport signal including a plurality of bits. The AAU is configured to adaptively adjust the number of bits that are allocated to the digitized RF data and the number of bits that are allocated to the IP formatted data.

The sub-system can divide the received broadband uplink signals into sets of narrowband uplink signals. The combining sub-system can select subsets of narrowband uplink signals from the sets of narrowband uplink signals. The subsets can be selected based on the narrowband signals in the subsets having signal powers above a threshold signal power. The combining sub-system can combine the selected subsets of narrowband uplink signals for routing to a base station. Combining the selected subsets of narrowband uplink signals can involve excluding narrowband uplink signals that are not included in the selected subsets of narrowband uplink signals.

The AOM includes a storage device interface at the second end, and a programmable processor coupled to the storage device interface and one or more first contacts of the electrical connector. When executed by a processor, a signal distribution engine receives information about signals transported by the DAS and components of the DAS. The signal engine generates a signal set assignment user interface including a list of signals transported by the DAS and a signal set formation area for receiving a signal set. The signal engine also generates a signal distribution user interface that includes representations of signal sets, hardware components, and associations between hardware components. In response to receiving a request to associate the signal set with a specified hardware component, a command is output to configure a signal path so that signals in the signal set are provided to the specified hardware component.
