Provided are toroidal support structures and assemblies comprising these structures. A toroidal support structure comprises one or more side panels forming a tubular ring and one or more floor panels forming a planar ring. These rings define the toroidal shape of the structure. The structure also comprises multiple isolating linear support components connected to a top edge of the tubular ring. During installation of the structure, the isolating linear support components are attached to a mounting base for supporting the structure relative to the base, while providing thermal isolation to the rings and preventing their mechanical distortion. As such, a toroidal support structure can be attached to various types of mounting bases, such as a cryogenic tank of a spacecraft. Both rings provide supporting and mounting surfaces for equipment, cables, and pipes, while the toroidal opening allows external components to protrude through the support structure.

A heat exchanger (10) includes a plurality of coils (12) configured to carry a primary fluid. The heat exchanger (10) also includes a fan (18) including a plurality of fan blades configured to force a secondary fluid across the plurality of coils to facilitate heat transfer between the primary and secondary fluids. The heat exchanger also includes a Stirling engine (20) operably connected to the fan (18) and configured to cause rotation of the fan blades. A corresponding method is also provided.

A thermal excitation source (110) fixed to the gantry (203, 205, 215, 220, 305) directs infrared radiation across the width of the surface of the composite part (140, 201). An infrared camera (120, 206, 210, 211, 212, 216, 221, 310, 320, 330) fixed to the gantry (203, 205, 215, 220, 305) a predetermined distance away from the thermal excitation source (110) scans the surface as the gantry (203, 205, 215, 220, 305) moves to detect and output scan information thereof. A controller (170) is coupled to the thermal excitation source (110) and to the infrared camera (120, 206, 210, 211, 212, 216, 221, 310, 320, 330). The controller (170) processes the sequence of infrared images to identify a foreign object debris material or defect located on and/or under the surface.

Provided are self-retractable centering assemblies and methods of using these assemblies for alignment of parts having determinant assembly alignment holes. An assembly includes a center pin having a threaded portion threadably engaging a drive component. The assembly also includes a puller bushing rotatably coupled to the drive component. The center pin protrudes through the puller bushing and can slide with respect to the puller bushing when the drive component is rotated relative to the center pin. The sliding distance is controlled by a limiter disposed within the cavity of the puller bushing. During operation, a portion of the center pin extends from the puller bushing and is inserted into alignment holes of parts being aligned. The drive component is rotated relative to the center pin resulting in the center pin being pulled out of the alignment holes while the puller bushing is being pressed against the parts.

The method includes: measuring an input current into the rectifier from a primary power source; determining a rate of change in the measured current; determining a current difference between a reference current and the measured current; measuring voltage output by the rectifier; determining a voltage difference between a reference voltage and the measured voltage; and detecting a failure condition of the rectifier as a function of the measured input current, the rate of change in the measured current, the current difference, the measured voltage and the voltage difference. More specifically, a failure condition of the rectifier is identified when the input current is decreasing and the rate of change in the measured current is decreasing and the current difference is increasing and the voltage difference is increasing.

Each communication packet may include control data and payload data. The node may extract the payload data and store the payload data for a time period. The node may determine whether to concatenate the extracted payload data of the communication packets (e.g., based on destinations to where each of the extracted payload data are to be sent, a supported data rate, an application type associated with the extracted payload data, etc.). The node may concatenate the extracted payload data of the communication packets and send the concatenated payload data to another node in a communication packet.
