The treatment may comprise oxidation, such as ozone oxidation, or high temperature baking, or plasma ashing, for example.

An electrophotographic printer is disclosed wherein the fusing of a toner image to an envelope by the use of a roll fuser causes the fusing nip to open early, i.e. the fusing nip opens a predetermined and controlled time/distance before the trailing edge of the envelope exits the fusing nip. As a result, creasing, wrinkling and the like of the envelope is minimized.

This invention relates to printing elements for use in a serial wire matrix printer having a plurality of driven wire printing elements (12, 18, 20). Each printing element has actuating means associated therewith to drive the elements against a ribbon from a retracted position to an actuated position and returned. Each actuating means includes an elongated drive element anchored at opposite ends thereof to piezoelectric crystal stacks (28). The piezoelectric stacks have electrical supply means for causing expansion of the crystal stacks responsive to an electric signal. The drive element is normally maintained in a taut bowed position and is secured to the piezoelectric crystal stacks so as to be driven toward a straightened condition upon actuation to the piezoelectrical crystal stacks to thereby drive the printing element axially to the printing or actuated position from the retracted position upon actuation of the crystal assembly. Spring biasing means (22) are provided which coact with the printing element to return the printing element to its retracted position when the electrical signal is removed or reversed in polarity.

Sheet money feeding machine having a friction feed (25) mounted to fed from the top of a stack (11) of money is disclosed. The stack (11) of money is contained within a cassette (13) having a moveable bottom (15). The bottom (15) of the cassette (13) is raised by a motor as money is fed from the top of the stack in order to maintain the top of the stack of money substantially at the top of the cassette and available for feeding by the friction feed. Ramps (21, 23) are mounted a predetermined distance down from the top of the cassette to squeeze sheets of money inwardly and cause them to bow upwardly as they are pushed up by the motor. The ramps (21, 23) cause blocks of mint money to be separated into a short loose stack of sheets above the ramps for reliable feeding by the friction feed (25).
