The data may be formatted into a report format that can be displayed or printed as an energy efficiency certificate.

A toaster is provided with a warming rack (6), for buns and the like, which forms an integral part of the toaster and executes a convenient "pop-up" movement. The rack is cantilevered to overlie the upper surface of the toaster and is formed with apertures (8) aligning with the toaster's bread slot or slots (4). The rack is held in its rest, or unused, position closely adjacent the top surface of the toaster, and against the urge supplied by a resilient lifting force, by means of a latch (9). When the latch is released, the lifting force causes the rack (6) to move rapidly to a raised, operative position in which the rack is spaced from the upper surface of the toaster. The latch (9) may take any convenient form such as a locking finger (25) moved pivotally to unlock it by means of a press button (24a), or a mechanism that alternately locks and unlocks when downward pressure is applied to the rack. The lifting force may be provided by one or more coiled springs (10) and in one example a single tension spring (Figure 4) is used that is extended when the rack is locked in its rest position and contracts when the latch is unlocked or otherwise released.

The invention is a stereo sound expander which reproduces a realistic sound image in three dimensions. Prior art systems suffered from the disadvantage that the creation of virtual sound sources or loudspeakers gave rise to a tonal change. Attempts to correct the tonal change impaired the accuracy of the virtual sound source. The invention overcomes the problems experienced by prior art systems, by coupling modified and unmodified stereo signals. Thus by not modifying a Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) for one signal and equalising the HRTF for the other signal, a flattened frequency response is produced with no tonal changes, but with a high degree of spatial accuracy. Resultant output signals may be used to generate binaural signals or can be fed into crosstalk cancellers.

Apparatus for displaying an image suspended in space comprises an object (1) for display, a retroreflector (2) receiving light from the object, a beamsplitter (3) in a path for light from the object to the retroreflector, and a concave mirror (4) between the beamsplitter and the retroreflector. The beamsplitter makes an oblique angle to the direction (6) of propagation of the light such that it transmits some light. Light from the beamsplitter is reflected by the mirror to the retroreflector which reflects it back via the mirror to the beamsplitter. This retroreflected light is reflected by the beamsplitter to form a real image (5) suspended in space. The use of a concave mirror improves viewability over apparatus including a converging lens because unwanted reflections from the surfaces of the lens are eliminated.

Apparatus for and a method of manufacturing a large number (typically more than 106) articles (12) are described. Typically 10,000 articles (12) are defined on a substrate (10) in an array of 100 rows by 100 columns. One method uses a screen printing technique and a mask to form a unique indicia on each article of the substrate. Several substrates (10) may be formed like this. Second, possibly third and more indicia is then applied to all articles (12) on a substrate (10). A different indicia is applied to all articles (12) on a different substrate (10). The result is that a very high number of unique articles (12) are fabricated rapidly and relatively easily. An alternative method employs a photolithographic technique. The two different methods may be combined. The substrates (10) are diced or cut into uniquely labelled articles (12) and may be used in combinational chemistry. The invention overcomes problems associated with prior art systems in that a large number of labelled articles (12) can be fabricated using less steps.
