A manually operated corner steady for a caravan may be retrofitted with an inventive electric drive unit (1) comprising a gearbox/motor unit (3) and a screw spindle (5) that are attached to a bracket (7). The bracket (7) is adapted to fit under and into an existing fixed part (22) of the steady, and the motor (8) is disposed under the screw spindle (5), thus obviating the need for space for the drive unit besides the steady under the caravan bottom. The structural parts (20, 21, 22, 23) of the steady are reused. The retrofitted powered steady may be operated by electric control or by using a wrench on a hexagon head (11). The invention also comprises a method for mounting the inventive drive unit (1) to an existing steady. The original spindle is removed and the drive unit (1) is mounted in its place such that the bracket (7) is lodged in the fixed part (22) of the steady, aligning mounting holes (15) on the bracket (7) with existing mounting holes in the fixed part (22). Original screws (28) are then used for mounting the steady with drive unit again at the bottom of the caravan, providing a simpler and more readily performed retrofitting operation.

For controlling the coolant flow in cooling units in a plate freezer, a valve (6) is inserted that allow normal flow-through in one direction, but only limited flow-through in the opposite direction. The valve is designed with a valve chamber (12) in which is provided a movable valve body (20). In a first position of the valve body (20) (Fig. 2b), the valve body (20) only allows limited flow-through of coolant through a central hole (22). In a second position (Fig. 2a), where the fluid flow has changed to the opposite direction, the valve body (20) is pressed away from its valve seat (23). Due to the size of the valve chamber (12) and the use of legs (21) on the valve body (20), a substantially larger flow-through of coolant is allowed. Applied to cooling units of a plate freezer, in the first position the valve acts as a flow resistance, meaning even distribution of coolant in a freezing stage for the cooling unit when coolant is to flow from a distribution chamber to the cooling unit. When the cooling unit (1) is to be defrosted, the coolant is sent the opposite way through the cooling unit (1) through the valve chamber (12) of the valve (6), whereby the valve opens up and allows a rapid flow-through of coolant and thereby a rapid and uniform defrosting of the cooling unit (1).

In the bottom (8) of the housing (6) there is provided three threaded holes (14) with 90° intervals for mounting one, two or three sensors or signal emitters (12) that may indicate the movements of a set of cups (1) through a cam disc (11). In the case of damage or if the external measuring system is changed the sensors (12) and the internal parts of the device may be substituted. The housing (6) may also be utilized for the purpose of a wind vane.

Seen in section, the surface is divided into two identical, reverse-image sectors, in relation to which the rotor (10) is disposed in a symmetrical manner. The opposing forces as a result of the diametrically-opposite directed sealing pressures hereby cancel each other out, and the rotor blades (14) can have a greater pitch with a consequent increase in capacity.
