The system detects a loss of synchronization between satellite signal timing code and a reference timing code, whrein position data is received from the IG unit (104) and representative of an estimated position of the navigation system (100). The system includes a DSP unit (112), which estimates a distance from the navigation system (100) to the satellite (106), as a function of the position data, and derives an initial delay from the distance. The DSP (112 delays the reference timing code, with respect to a satellite signal timing code, by an offset delay until the satellite timing code is synchronized with the reference timing code.

Pump light (830) is applied to the optical waveguide (810) to cause the waveguide (810) to provide optical gain to the optical input signals. The optical gain causes the optical signals to be amplified within the waveguide (810) to provide amplified optical signals over the extended 80-160-nanometer range, including, in particular, optical signals having wavelengths at one end of the range and optical signals having wavelengths at a second end of the range.

The edging strip is a development of the invention described in UK - PS 2250192, which provides a method of securing an edge of floorcovering to a floor surface. The method is characterised by using an edging strip comprising separate housing and insert strips, which are interfitted via co-operating locking means. The edging strips described are relatively deep and may need to be fitted into channels formed in the floor. The present invention provides an edging strip of relatively shallow construction, which is characterised by the interlocking means comprising a housing strip (2) which is 'U' shaped, one sidewall (17) of which is higher than the other sidewall (18) by an amount substantially equal to or greater than the thickness of the floorcovering, and an insert strip (3) which is 'L' shaped, the horizontal limb (19) being adapted to fit within the housing strip groove (20) with its upper surface level with or higher than the housing sidewall (18) with its vertical limb (22) adjacent the housing sidewall (17) and of equal height. Co-operating projections (24) and mating recesses (25) are provided in said insert and housing strips which lie in the horizontal plane. Preferably, the housing sidewall (17) is inclined so as to flex and thereby facilitate fixing the insert strip by pressing down along its length to snap fit into the housing strip (2).

An implant (10) for use in the treatment of glaucoma is disclosed wherein the implant (10) comprises an elastomeric plate (40) having a non-valved elastomeric drainage tube (42) attached thereto. The plate (40) is elliptical in shape and curved so as to conform to the curvature of the eye (12). The plate (40) is inserted into the eye (12) in an incision (70) made in the Tenon's capsule (44) and sutured to the sclera (14). The drainage tube (42) is tunnelled through the Tenon's capsule (44) and cornea (16) and inserted into the anterior chamber (30), thus providing patent fluid communication between the anterior chamber (30) and the elastomeric plate (40). The flexible structure of the plate (40) allows the plate to be easily inserted, thus reducing the surgical procedure length. In addition, the pliable material minimizes the risk of damage and trauma to surrounding tissues in the insertion process.
