    摘要: An improved platform-mounted apparatus for holding and rapidly releasing a flexible load line (38) having the proper­ties of a wire rope comprises wedge gripper means (100) for holding the line up to a tensile force substantially equal to the breaking strength of the line. The gripper means comprise a grip frame (54, 60, 62) for mounting to the platform (10) and a pair of opposed grip wedges (74). A grip body (102) has seating surfaces which taper toward each other such that motion of the grip wedges (74) into the taper of the seating surfaces (78) causes the opposed grip wedges to wedge together to en­gage the line (38) and motion out of the taper of the seating surfaces causes release of the line. Release means connected to the pair of grip wedges (74) and the grip body (102) posi­tively move the grip body (102) relative to the grip wedges (74) to cause line release. When the wedge gripper means is combined with a winch means (40) for mounting to a platform, with the winch means having the ability to draw in and hold the line (38) up to a tensile force less than the breaking strength of the line, the combined apparatus can draw in, hold, pay out and rapidly release a mooring line.

    摘要: An apparatus for increasing the available hook raising and lowering distance is attached to a crane (10) or other lifting structure having a boom (20) and at least one lifting tackle (35) utilizing at least one lifting line connected to a prime mover (74). The apparatus utilizes a support means (56) attached to the crane boom substantially at the connection point of an existing upper tackle. A fixed, lower gripper platform (90) is suspended from the support means and has at least one linear winch grip (160) mounted thereon. A movable, upper gripper platform (140) is connected to at least one lifting line (70) associated with the lifting tackle. The upper gripper platform has at least one linear winch grip (160) mounted thereon. The upper gripper platform is also adapted to reciprocate between the lower gripper platform and the upper tackle in response to the prime mover drawing in or paying out the lifting line.

    摘要: An improved crane (10) is disclosed which can be reconfigured from a lifting configuration to a stowed configuration. In the stowed configuration, the over­all height of the crane (10) is much reduced to permit the crane to be moved under overhead obstructions and also lower the center of gravity of the crane to increase stability. A backleg (30) of the crane pro­vides a novel tension bearing capability where tubes of varying diameter are telescoped within each other. The backleg can be telescoped to a minimum length limited by contact between interior reinforcing rings (118) and stop blocks (122) and telescoped to a maximum length, limited by contacts between annular stop rings (124, 126) mounted on the telescoped tubes.
