A cover feeder comprising a conveyer (2) for intermittently conveying containers (N) with their open end surfaced directed upward, a cover stock device (4) holding a stack of covers, and a cover feeding mechanism (6) sucking a single cover from the cover stock device (4) and holding it, transferring it up to the upper side of the open end surface of a container carried-in on the conveyer, and releasing the cover from the sucking and holding to feed it onto the open end surface, the cover feeder further comprising a cover guide (40) adjacent the cover stock device (4) for guiding the cover in covering the open end surface as it is released from a cover suction mechanism, and a guide moving mechanism (46) for moving the cover guide (40) to a position flush with the open end surface of the container immediately before the cover is released from the sucking and holding of the cover feeding mechanism.
