摘要： There are described materials for use in the manufacture of cores, moulds and strongbacks, the cores, moulds or strongbacks comprising shaped and fired bodies of fused silica containing cristobalite homogeneously dispersed throughout. Such bodies are suitably made from a composition comprising fused silica powder and a devitrification aid containing an alkali metal compound in which the alkali metal compound is dispersed in the fused silica by adding it in an organic phase. Such cores, moulds and strongbacks are particularly suitable for use in the high temperature casting of alloys, especially single crystal casting and the casting of directionally-solidified and eutectic alloys.

摘要： A core or insert primarily forthe production of metal and alloy castings, e.g. of complicated internal shape, is a refractory body comprising essentially a water-soluble salt and a calcium silicate, the calcium silicate being present in amount of at least 45%, by weight, based on the total weight of calcium silicate and water-soluble salt, and the water-soluble salt and the calcium silicate having a particular particle size distribution. The calcium silicate is preferably a wollastonite.
The core may be removed from the cast or moulded article by dissolution in water.-

摘要： A water filter comprises a hollow cylindrical ceramic candle element (10) having a lower closed end and an upper open end. The upper end is glued between inner (18) and outer (20) downwardly-depending circular flanges of a plastics material end cap (12). An impervious plastics tube (24) is concentrically glued to the inner surface of the inner flange (18). Water-treating granules (28) are retained within the tube (24) by stainless steel gauzes (30,32), these granules may contain coral sand to reduce the acidity of and add minerals to the water, ion exchange resins to remove heavy metals, polyphosphates for softening the water, substances for removing or killing viruses and bacteria, or for adding other desirable chemicals such as disinfectants. Water flows through the candle element (10), down through an annular space (26) between the element and the tube (24), up through the granules in the tube and out through a bore (34) in the end cap (12).
