The gear segments are embodied in blocks (60,61) and the teeth extend over only half of a semi-circular face of each block so that by inverting the blocks the vertical portions of the segments may be adjusted within limits. Vertically adjustable guides (53) support the screen which includes acoustic insulation pads enclosed within a fabric sleeve (80).

摘要： A full height partition wall system is characterized by a unitary panel (10) with a vertically movable head panel (15) and a vertically movable foot panel (16) secured thereto and forming part thereof which can be moved upwardly and downwardly, respectively, to secure the panel (10) to and directly against a ceiling and floor, respectively. The system has no posts, but rather a narrow vertical (25) on each end of the panel (10) which has an outwardly directed relatively shallow channel (26) at the top in which is positioned a strut (62) supporting the corresponding end of the head panel (15). A drive (82) in the form of a small cog is operative vertically to move the strut (62) and thus the head panel (15), with a spring detent member (75) holding the strut (62) in adjusted position. An adjustable foot panel (16) is secured to the bottom of each vertical (25) and the foot panel (16) is spring loaded against the bottom of the foot for movement either with the bottom of the foot or movement independently against the spring loading. The vertical (25) further has laterally directed edge flanges (35) flush with the open end of the channel (26) and which can be held to juxtaposed edge flanges (35) of an adjacent panel (10) to form a partition wall, and lateral access may be had to the strut drive (82) for vertical adjustment of the head panel (15) without disassembly of the partition wall. The panels (10) include metal face plates (19) formed with locating flanges (21) at inwardly bent vertical edges (20) thereof which co-operate with lateral stops on the vertical (25) properly to position on the face plates (19) the vertical (25) forming the vertical edge of the panel (10).

The four bar linkage (24) is duplicated on each side of the chair by forming the two opposite non-parallel links or cranks (29, 30, 38, 39) from the upturned ends of the tubes (26, 27) which pass through the base (10) in parallel but vertically offset fashion, the base (10) thus forming the fixed bar of the linkage (24) with its opposite bar or coupler being formed by the seat (11). A spring (62) within the base (10) is operative on one of the tubes (26, 27) to urge the chair to an upright position. The tubes (26, 27) are pivotally connected to the seat (11) and one of the tubes (27) extends and is fixedly connected to the back (12) in a manner to emphasize the isolated and separate appearance of the seat (11) and back (12). With the above construction the seat (11) and back (12) both tilt in their proper natural body support positions but in a respective ration of about 1 to 3. The chair thus obviates some of the problems of prior chairs where only the back tilts or both the seat and back tilt as a unit

摘要： A work station useful for conventional purposes and also particularly useful for utilizing electronic equipment such as computers, word processors and the accoutrements thereof is provided which includes a wide variety of adjustments such as leveling, elevation, angle and position, not only of work surfaces, but also of attached cabinets, printers, disc readers, etc., as well as individual adjustment of accessories such as video screens, line readers, phone pads, task lights, trays and the like, all to provide an ergonomically effective adjustable work station. Major component adjustment may be power driven. Wiring access is provided through outlets in a wiring tray (195) beneath the major work surface (85) which may be exposed by sliding or pivoting such work surface, such pivoting being at a point adjacent the user. The support for the work surface slide includes a slot or recess (200) by which wiring may connect to lateral support surfaces. The work station is modular in component and form, the major structural elements of which are two two-part telescoping adjustable legs (40) which are interconnected by two spaced apart beams (55, 56) providing an open slot therebetween. Each beam includes on the interior thereof a track (76, 77) forming vertically spaced rails (78, 79). Such rails support a wide variety of accessories either for adjustable clamping thereto or rolling therealong. One such accessory is a support for a video display screen which is mounted on rollers for free rolling along one of the tracks and which includes an adjustment for height, angle, and position with respect to the user, such adjustments being manual or power driven.

摘要： A lamp for use with a recline chair, or like item of furniture includes a pedestal (10), a horizontally extending light fixture (11) and a three-link parallelogram linkage (12) supporting said fixture from said pedestal. The pedestal and fixture include parallel surfaces extending approximately 45° to the horizontal in which the links are mounted with ball and socket joints (63, 64). Two of the links extend beyond the ball joints and are interconnected by short transverse links. In the pedestal the connecting transverse link (70) is connected to one or two tension coil springs (74, 75) balancing the light fixture in any position. The pedestal may support a cantilever table (26) to serve as a side table for the furniture used with the lamp. The fixture may include a semi-cylindrical reflector with pivotal shades (111) at each edge. The fixture is thus mounted and maintained in its horizontal position for adjustment throughout a spherical segment with the linkage moving within a right spherical cone, or from a horizontal to a vertical position, the axis of such cone thus extending at an angle of approximately 135° to the vertical axis of the pedestal.

摘要： A recline chair for use in an office or home is designed, with associated furniture, for the performance of tasks while in such chair such as reading, writing or operation of a computer or word processor. The chair is designed to be used with an ottoman and includes a seat (25) and back (20) both reclinable rearwardly with the back being reclinable to a much greater extent. The back and arms (18) are pivoted at an ideal natural body pivot point (17) of the user and the seat is pivoted (24) at its front but reclined through a suspended linkage (28, 29) from the arms but through a much shorter pivot arm so there is not upward lifting of the users legs. A headrest (44) is mounted on the back and is extendable about an arc which is struck from the ideal pivot point of the head and back of the user. The headrest includes a special cranial support (131) which may be vertically adjusted within the headrest itself. Both the headrest and the seat and back are provided with separate actuators (69, 39) which tend to urge the headrest to its extended position and the seat and back to the upright position. Each actuator includes a locking mechanism and separate control means are provided for each lock mechanism in the respective arms. The lock mechanism of the headrest and backrest is engaged as a result of the weight of a user sitting in the chair and can only be released through its control. The controls are enabled as a result of the weight of the user in the chair. The chair is brought to its upright position automatically if the user should leave the chair in its reclined position. This is accomplished through a special interlocking control mechanism in each arm of the chair actuated by the presence or absence of a weight on the seat.

The table includes a relatively heavy T-shape base (10) with an adjustable height telescoping tubular vertical pedestal (11) extending from the intersection of the stem and head of the T. A convenient hand wheel (15) is provided readily to adjust the height of the upper vertically movable portion of the pedestal. Mounted on the height adjustable portion of the pedestal is a first or lower table surface (17) which is supported on a cantilever parallelogram linkage (16) so that it may be swung toward and away from the user through a limited swing arc without changing its front edge orientation with respect to the user. However, at the limit of such parallel orientation swinging away from the user the proximal connection of the linkage to the pedestal is released so that the entire table assembly including the supporting linkage may be swung approximately 45° about the vertical axis of the pedestal to clear the area above the chair. Such first or lower table surface may be tilted about its front toward or away from the user and locked in the desired tilt position. At the edge closest to the user the surface includes a rotating rail (150) which in one position provides a tray or stop surface to hold books, papers, pads, pencils, or even a keyboard from sliding or rolling into the lap of the user. On top of the pedestal there is provided another table surface or tray (19) which may be rotated about a vertical axis on the end of a swinging arm. Such tray may support, for example, a video display or it may be omitted or replaced entirely by a lamp.
