摘要: PCT No. PCT/GB92/00894 Sec. 371 Date Nov. 15, 1993 Sec. 102(e) Date Nov. 15, 1993 PCT Filed May 18, 1992 PCT Pub. No. WO92/20627 PCT Pub. Date Nov. 26, 1992.There is disclosed a method of treating liquid carrying suspended solids comprising the following steps: (i) introducing the liquid into a primary treatment vessel (1) and causing agglomeration of solids suspended in the liquid to form flocs which are not settleable to any substantial degree within the time the said liquid is permitted to remain in the primary vessel; (ii) transferring an aqueous component comprising the flocs from the primary treatment vessel (1) to a secondary treatment vessel (5) where a floc of a settleable nature is caused to form; and (iii) permitting said floc to settle under gravity in the secondary vessel (5) and recovering an aqueous component having a substantially reduced concentration of suspended solids relative to the original liquid; wherein the liquid is subjected in the primary vessel to flow patterns, including a low energy circulating flow about a vertical axis of the primary vessel, which provide conditions for the formation of the substantially non-settleable flocs containing suspended solids from the original liquid; and wherein the aqueous component from the primary treatment vessel is subjected in the secondary vessel to flow patterns, including a low energy circulating flow about a vertical axis of the vessel, which provide conditions for rapid formation of flocs and subsequent rapid settlement thereof.

摘要: There is disclosed a method of treating water comprising adding to the water a composition comprising a weighting agent and an electrolyte having a multivalent metal cation.
The resultant floc absorbs suspended solids in the water and gives rise to a dense sludge which is easily removed from the purified supernatant liquor. A composition for use in the method is also disclosed. The composition may be in the form of a slurry or a friable solid (which may be briquetted).

摘要: A separator comprises a vessel having an outer wall (2) and an end wall (3). A body (14) adjacent the end wall (3) defines with the end wall (3) an annular opening (15). In use, a mixture of, for example water and solid material is introduced into the vessel through a first inlet (4). A circulating motion takes place in the vessel and the solid material falls to the end wall (3) and is removed through the opening (15) to an outlet (6) while clean water flows from the top of the vessel through an outlet (8). In order to increase the energy in the lower region of the vessel so as to assist removal of the solid material, water from the outlet (8) is passed through a pump (P) and reintroduced as energising fluid to the vessel through a recirculating port (44). Energising fluid may be taken from sources other than the outlet (8). Various alternative forms of separator are disclosed.

摘要: There is provided a low energy gravitational separator for separating solid matter from a liquid mixture carrying the solid matter comprising: (a) a vessel having a cylindrical outer wall and a base at one end, (b) a body which is provided within the vessel and which defines with the base an annular opening spaced from the outer wall, (c) an annular dip plate in an upper region of the vessel and spaced from the outer wall of the vessel for stabilising flow patterns in the vessel, (d) a vessel inlet formed as an opening in the outer wall of the vessel for introducing the liquid mixture into the vessel, (e) an outlet in communication with an upper region of the vessel for removing from the vessel a treated liquid, (f) a solids collection region centrally disposed of the base for collecting solid matter separated from the liquid mixture, and (g) an inlet reservoir in communication with the vessel via the said vessel inlet, which inlet constitutes a drainage outlet from the inlet reservoir, the inlet reservoir being shaped to direct liquid from the reservoir through the drainage outlet into the vessel in a generally tangential direction thereby to promote a circulating flow of the liquid mixture within the vessel; the arrangement of the components of the separator being such that, in use with a circulating flow of liquid and solid matter within the vessel which is such that any separation of the solid component of the liquid in the vessel is brought about primarily by gravity, there is created a stabilised shear zone in the circulating liquid between an outer, relatively fast circulating region and an inner, relatively slowly circulating region and there is caused an inward sweeping effect of solids accumulated at the base of the vessel towards the said annular opening.
