摘要： A system monitors the movement of people 10 through passageway 1, e.g. turnstile, e.g. to prevent tailgating or sidegating. It comprises multiple time of flight ranging sensors (TOF) 3a, 3b deployed on opposing sides of the passageway. The TOF sensors probe a direction substantially transverse to the direction of movement T of a person or object, e.g. using infrared. The TOF sensors produce one-dimensional measurements of the distance to the person versus time. The speed of the person or object is determined and combined with the sequence of distance values to produce 2D cross-sections 5a, 5b. One for each TOF detector. From these measurements, the system can determine the number of people and the direction of their movement. The beams may be transmitted intermittently, i.e. time division multiplexing, to avoid cross talk. The TOF sensors may be directly opposing or may be displaced in the direction of travel T.
