Disclosed is a method of preparing a silver halide poto- graphic emulsion having composition comprising silver chloride as a principal component, which comprises adding to an aqueous solution of a hydrophilic colloid (Solution A) an aqueous solution of a water-soluble silver salt (Solution (B) and an aqueous solution of a water-soluble halide (Solution C) according to a simultaneous mixing method, while maintaining the rate of addition of Solution B and that of Solution C to a level not higher than the critical growth rate of silver halide grains and, at the same time, setting EAg value at the time of the addition of Solution B and Solution C to a level not lower than 130 mV and not higher than 160mV, said silver halide photographic emulsion being prepared in the presence of a water-soluble rhodium salt.

In said material, at least a red-sensitive silver halide emulsion sub-layer having high sensitivity is provided between a first green-sensitive silver halide emulsion sub-layer of high sensitivity and a second green-sensitive silver halide emulsion sub-layer having a lower sensitivity than said first green-sensitive sub-layer, said first green-sensitive sub-layer and/or said red-sensitive sub-layer with high sensitivity giving a maximum color density of formed dye in said material higher than 0.6 but not exceeding 1.3.
