A water float is formed by fixedly sandwiching a plurality of foamed resin members spaced apart from each other in a plane, with a pair of surface sheets of thermoplastic resin. The thus-formed water float of a large area may suitably be floated on water surfaces of lakes or ponds, pools, dams, rivers and seas, for preventing deterioration of water qualities due to occurrence of mosses, such as water-bloom; or as bases for installing thereon view facilities such as illuminations, advertisement media and solar batteries. A plurality of the water floats may be disposed in a plane and connected with each other so as to form a water float connection system of a larger area.

A method of producing an aqueous solution of slaked lime is disclosed the steps of which includes introducing water into a slaked lime-dissolving apparatus comprising a dissolving tank (1), a water supply piping (2) connected to a lower part of the tank, a stirring blade (3) disposed within the tank in its bottom part, an effluent piping (6) connected to an upper part of the tank for discharging aqueous slaked lime solution, and a fluidized slaked lime layer height-control device (5) disposed within the tank above the stirring blade, subsequently introducing a predetermined amount of slaked lime into the tank, feeding water, with low-speed stirring, to the tank from the water supply piping in such a rate that the water in the cylindrical or rectangular upper part of the tank ascends at a rate of from 0.25 to 1.2 mm/sec, and taking out an aqueous solution of slaked lime from the tank through the effluent piping.

A method is disclosed for reducing the corrosiveness of a water supply, and preventing the generation of red water caused by iron rust, by modifying the Langelier index of the water, which comprises:
(1) determining the amount of carbon dioxide required to increase the concentration of free carbonic acid in the water based on the existing and desired Langelier indices, and the acceptable pH range, of the water supply; (2) dissolving the said amount of carbon dioxide gas in the water to generate free carbonic acid in the water; and (3) adding a substantially saturated aqueous solution of slaked lime to the water supply such that the free carbonic acid is neutralised and the desired Langelier index is achieved.
An apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.
