The drum commutator, adjacent to the terminal lugs (8), further comprises an annular, closed substantially regularly cylindrical surface (19) with alternating pressed material zones and metal zones, as well as a metallized inner surface of the carbon segments (4) that communicates with the support base (1). When producing such a drum commutator, the conductor segments (3) are preferably first connected to a conductor blank via bridge portions which are removed once the conductor blank has been assembled with a carbon cylinder and the support base has been injection-molded onto it.

A carbon ring (19) is glued onto the machined front face of the composite (10) and electrically conductive connections to the conductor blank or the conductor segments produced from the conductor blank are produced. Each segment (1) has a ring-shaped groove (6) with a linearly variable diameter. From its open end to its bottom, the ring-shaped groove (6) is slightly inclined in relation to the longitudinal axis (15) of the segment body (5). A reinforcement ring (3) pressed into the ring-shaped groove creates radial stresses in the segment body (5) that keep the switch segments (1) at a constant radial distance from each other.
