This invention is aimed at preparing polymer materials based of polydicyclopentadiene with improved physical and mechanical and organoleptic characteristics, significantly expanding spectrum of their application. Technical result the invention is aimed at is ensuring possibility of controlling time of polymerization start, reducing the catalyst consumption, and improving physical and mechanical properties of the product. The technical result is achieved through applying compound with the following general formula as the catalyst for polymerization of dicyclopentadiene and modifying additives: where L is substituent selected from the following group: introduced into the mixture at catalyst/dicyclopentadiene mole ratios of 1:70000 to 1:1000000. Polymerization is carried out at temperatures 30°C to 200°C. Modifying additives are activated by the catalysts and these additives participate in polymerization.
