摘要: A boom extension monitoring system (100) is provided that uses a combination of sensors (116, 200) to determine an absolute location and a relative location of the boom (112, 700). As the boom (112, 700) extends or retracts, the monitoring system (100) can determine the absolute location of the boom (112, 700) as the sum of the absolute at relative distances. These distances can be obtained through a combination of a grid (114, 400, 500), low-resolution sensors (202, 204, 206, 208, 210), high-resolution sensors (212, 300, 606), counters (604), processors (602), and other components according to various embodiments described herein. A process to obtain the total boom extension of multiple telescoping beams by monitoring the extension of a single beam element is also described.
