    摘要: An enclosure for electrical switchgear is a box like structure made up of side panels (2, 4) front and rear panels (6 & 7) and external panels (28). The panels (2, 4 & 28) define chimneys (26) which are connected to the enclosure (14) via apertures (22, 24) at their lower ends. Thus if the gas filled circuit breaker chamber (20) explodes as a result of a fault developing, the enclosure (14) is relieved of the resulting pressure generated by the expanding gases by venting to a ventilation system via the apertures (22, 24) and the chimneys (26).

    摘要: An electrical machine (10) includes a component (12) such as a rotor or a stator with slots (14) formed therein in which are located conductors (16), the mouth of each slot (14) having a dovetail (18) formed therealong. The conductors (16) are retained in the slots (14) by slot wedges (20) each of which comprises an intermediate member (22) having lateral cam surfaces (26) thereon and a pair of side members (24) each having first and second lateral cam surfaces (30,32) thereon. The cam surfaces (26,30,32) are so shaped that, on location of the wedge (20) in a dovetail (18) and on movement of the intermediate member (22) relative to the side members (24) longitudinally of the slot (14) to wedge the side members (24) in the dovetail (18) and to wedge the intermediate member (22) between the side members (24), the intermediate member (22) is forced inwardly of the slot (14) relative to the side members (24) to impose a load on the conductors (16) thereby retaining them in the slot (14).

    摘要: A large scale horizontal axis rotary electrical machine has a stator with a laminated annular core (14) resting upon an open-topped support structure (12). At one position along its length the core is axially fixed to the support structure but is otherwise free to move axially on the structure to accommodate differential thermal movements. Clamping means (40,42) for the core laminations incorporate springs (44) that allow the core to expand axially. The stator windings are axially slidable in slots in the laminated core and are held by respective winding end supports (54,56) spaced from the ends of the core, whereby differential thermal expansion is accommodated between the core and the windings. By adoption of the open-topped support structure, assembly of the core can be accelerated by lowering individual lamination stampings or pre-assembled biscuits of such stampings onto the structure while the structure remains in a horizontal position.
