Provided are a novel ultraviolet-ray screening agent and a novel cosmetic each having a high level of ultraviolet-ray screening function. The inventors have found that an extract from an olive branch has a high level of effect of absorbing ultraviolet rays, particularly UV-A and UV-B, and has a high level of ultraviolet-ray absorbing function, whereby the inventors have completed the present invention. The ultraviolet-ray screening agent according to the present invention includes an extract from an olive branch, wherein olive bark may be substituted for the olive branch. The ultraviolet-ray screening agent according to the present invention may be in the form of a cosmetic.

Provided is a method for producing an olive leaf extract that contains a high concentration of oleuropein. The method according to the present invention for producing an olive leaf extract comprises a first step for grinding dried olive leaves and a second step for mixing the ground olive leaves with grape and then extracting an olive leaf extract with the use of an extraction solvent, wherein, in the second step, the extraction solvent is water, an alcohol or a combination thereof and the extraction is conducted at 70°C or higher.
