Device for determining the velocity of a bullet travelling in a direction from a point of fire to a target. The device comprises first and second electro-acoustic sensors (12a, 12b) arranged at a predetermined distance from each other, a processing unit arranged to receive a first electrical signal from the first electro-acoustic sensor (12a) and a second electrical signal from the second electro-acoustic (12b) sensor to determine a time frame between the reception of the first and second electrical signals and to determine the velocity of the bullet in a direction parallel to the alignment of the first and second electro-acoustic sensors (12a, 12b), whereupon the velocity of the bullet in a direction parallel to the alignment of the first and second electro-acoustic sensors is determined, and velocity presentation means. The first and second electro-acoustic sensors(12a, 12b), the processing unit and the velocity presentation means (15) are mounted in a common housing, the housing (11) being formed so that said device for determining the velocity of the bullet is portable. A sighting means (13, 14) is attached to the housing (11) for aligning the first and second electro-acoustic sensors (12a, 12b) parallel to the direction from the point of fire to the target. Each of the first and second electro-acoustic sensors (12a, 12b) is arranged to detect acoustic energy in the ultrasonic range of a shock wave generated by the bullet when travelling at supersonic speed in the direction from the point of fire to the target and to transduce the acoustic energy in the ultrasonic range into an electrical signal.
