摘要： A drive for a carrier tape (12) used in conjunction with a pick and place module (200) of a machine for inspecting and handling advances the carrier tape (12) to its desired position in two steps. Using the number of sprocket holes (14) between compartments (20) in the tape (12) (n holes), the first step is n-1 sprocket holes (14). The second step takes the carrier tape (12) the remaining distance to complete the advance to the distance equal to n sprocket holes (14). The tape (12) is driven by friction rollers (122, 124) not by means of the sprocket holes (14). The presence of a device in a compartment (20) and its proper positioning in the compartment (20) is also inspected.

摘要： The invention provides an apparatus and method for inspecting and handling devices that are semi-constrained in trays (12). The trays (12) are transported through various inspection and handling stages, such as laser scanning (200), inversion (300), camera scanning (400) and individual placement (450) at a final destination so that devices meeting the exacting standards for acceptable devices are separated from those devices which do not meet such standards. The transport of trays (12) is along a linear path and the inversion of the devices in the trays (12) is accomplished above the linear path.
