With the invention, graphic symbols are cold stamped on objects. Each graphic symbol (letter, figure, abbreviation, etcetera) is set in the stamping plane (S) independently of the setting of the remaining graphic symbols which jointly define, in the said plane (S), a predetermined combination of symbols. The setting of the said graphic symbols that are provided circumferentially, in relief, on corresponding, side-by-side, coaxial, stamping discs (3), (4), (5), (6), (7) and (8) takes place in observance of prefixed specifications programmed (and realized) through electrical means (22), (33), (36) and (40). Furthermore, the graphic symbols set in the stamping plane (S) are orientated in a predetermined direction and are maintained stably in the said position also at the time the stamping operation is in progress, this making it possible to achieve, on the said object, impressions (complementary to the said graphic symbols) that are clear and are identical in orientation.

A device for transferring pieces, in particular metal keys, from an infeed station (25) to an operating and discharge station (26) has a turret (1) that comprises a tubular member able to rotate around an axis (A) perpendicular to the transfer plane of the keys (5), the upper part of which extends horizontally to form a support and guide element (20) for a movable carriage (13), provided with a clamping device (17) that withdraws a key (5) from an infeed station (25) and transfers itto an operating and discharge station (26). An operating system exerts an effect on the turret (1) and causes, first of all the rotation just of the support element (20) from the infeed station (25) to the operating station (26), with the carriage (13) in a position of maximum retraction and, subsequently, the maximum advancement of the carriage (13) up to the working position, and once this has been done, the operating system causes the carriage (13) to retract again and this discharges the machined key (5). To conclude, the operating system causes the support element (20) to rotate in the opposite direction up to the infeed station (25), thereby giving rise to a fresh cycle.
