The transaction request is transmitted by the customer from a vehicle RF transceiver to a dispenser equipped RF transceiver where it is rerouted through an on-site dedicated controller to the central system controller (12) over a long-haul communications link. The digital pulses are accumulated during dispensation of the calibrated volume of fluid through the prover, and a calibration factor is automatically calculated and applied to the digital pulses prior to being supplied to an electronic display unit (26) for accurate computation and display of the volume of liquid through the meter. A four-port, two-position valve (40) is actuated prior to the beginning of each dispensing event by the microprocessor (34) to reverse flow through the prover tube (36).

The dispenser (10) controls component pumps (18, 20) according to octane data measured by octane meters (14, 16). In one form of the invention octane measurements are taken within the input lines connected to the dispenser (10) from fluid storage tanks (27, 28).
