摘要： A fastening screw having an elongate shank (1), and a drilling tip (2) and a head (3) provided at respective opposite ends of the shank (1). A method of forming a fastening screw from a screw preform (9), includes deforming the preform (9) to create a drilling tip (2) which has at least one cutting edge (5) and a flute (6), and applying a thread (8) to the shank (1) in the region in which the flute (6) is formed.

摘要： A self-drilling screw (1) having a head at one end and a forged drilling end configuration at the other. The drilling end configuration comprises a pair of longitudinally extending flutes (9) which are separated by land portions (8) and which extend through a tapered tip end (5) to form two cutting edges (21). The forging operation is performed in such a way as to promote complete formation of the tip end (5) and that may be achieved by inhibiting material flow away from that tip end (5) or by promoting extrusion of material towards the tip end (5). The drilling end portion (16) of the screw (1) is of elliptical cross section having a minor axis in the region of 60 to 80% of the major axis, and a fillet (22) is formed in the base of each flute (9) at the tip end portion of the flute (9). Each fillet (22) has a flat surface (23) arranged generally parallel to the screw axis and angularly relative to the adjacent cutting edge (21) of the tip end (5). At least one interuption (11), which may be a depression or a projection, is formed on each of a plurality of side surfaces (8) of the drilling end portion (16). Also, each flute (9) may comprise two end to end portions (14, 15) which extend at different angles to the longitudinal axis of the screw (1).

摘要： A security device for forming a ring or shackle seal. The device includes a housing (14) at one end of a band (10) into which a male element (12) at the other end of the band is insertable. The housing has opposing laterally offset teeth (28) integrally formed therein for interlocking with complementary recesses (54, 56) in opposite faces of the male element to prevent withdrawal of the male element from the housing. The housing includes only the one entrance (16) for receiving the male element which element may include blocking means (60, 62) for occupying the opening into the housing. The device confers improved security in that the teeth are inaccessible for pre-tampering prior to the seal being formed and once formed, access into the housing is inhibited by the blocking means.

摘要： An anchor for fixing a first member (35) to a second member (8), such as a plasterboard or similar sheet material wall. The anchor is formed from a plastics material and includes an elongate shank (2) for passage through the second member (8) from a front surface (7) thereof to beyond the rear surface. The shank has a screw thread (17) for engaging the second member for retaining the shank therein, and the shank includes a passage (25) extending from an outer head end (3) for reception of a fastening screw (24-26), a toggle bar (5) and at least one frangible connector (20-21-22) attaching the toggle bar on the shank in an inoperative position at which the toggle bar extends in the longitudinal direction of the elongate shank and does not interfere with passage of the shank through the second member. The toggle bar includes a ramp surface (27) which is contactable by the fastening screw inserted through the passage (25) for moving the toggle bar from its inoperative position to an operative position at which it extends transversely to the longitudinal axis of the shank rearwardly of the rear surface of the second member. The toggle bar in its operative position includes a through hole (23) which is engageable by the fastening screw, whereby a first member (35) associated with the fastening screw is fixable to the second member (8) upon relative rotation of the fastening screw in the shank to draw the toggle bar into engagement with the rear surface of the second member.
