A circular saw for re-sawing or ripping lumber, timber or like wood, such as logs, blocks, cants and boards, into thinner pieces. The saw includes a plurality of saw blades (9) which are mounted on a saw axle (4) and dogged by the axle as it rotates, a drive motor (1), and power transmission means mounted between the motor and the axle. The transmission means includes a belt (23), chain or like device which passes in a loop around two wheels (24, 25) of which one is intended to be driven by the motor and the other is intended to drive the saw axle. The transmission ratios between the wheels (24, 25) and respective wheel axles are mutually different and the wheels and their respective axles are mounted in a separate holder device (28). The holder device can be mounted with a selected wheel coupled to the drive motor (1) and the other wheel coupled to the saw axle (4) such as to cause the saw blades (9) to rotate at one or the other of two predetermined speeds in the performance of a cutting operation.

An arrangement for controlling the tension in the saw-blading (5, 6) of a bandsaw equipped with an electrically controllable blading-tensioning arrangement by means of which the blading can be stretched so as to adjust the tension therein to a desired level. To this end, the arrangement includes automatically operating devices (8-13) which are operative to determine whether or not the blading-tension is optimal during a sawing operation. These devices are intended to sense and determine mutually different parameters, such as specific blading-tension, disturbances in the movement pattern of the blading, the linearity of the saw cut, etc. The arrangement also includes a microprocessor (9) which is operative to process the electric signals corresponding to the sensed parameters. The microprocessor is programmed to send control signals to the blading-tensioning arrangement when the microprocessor establishes deviations from limit values programmed therein with respect to the parameters or fluctuations of these parameters, thereby to adjust blading-tension in a manner to reduce these deviations or fluctuations. The invention also relates to a method for controlling the tension of sawblading.

Ledit aménagement sert à tendre les lames de manière à régler leur tension au niveau requis. A cette fin, l'aménagement comprend des dispositifs à fonctionnement automatique (8-13) pour déterminer si la tension des lames est optimale ou non pendant le sciage. Ledits dispositifs sont destinés à détecter et à déterminer des paramètres mutuellement différents, tels que la tension spécifique des lames, la linéarité de la coupe, etc. L'arrangement comprend également un microprocesseur (9) qui traite les signaux électriques correspondant aux paramètres détectés. Le microprocesseur est programmé pour envoyer des signaux de commande audit aménagement lorsque le microprocesseur a établi des déviations dans des valeurs de limite programmés, par rapport aux paramètres ou aux fluctuations de ceux-ci, permettant ainsi de régler la tension des lames de manière à réduire lesdites déviations ou fluctuations. L'invention concerne aussi un procédé pour contrôler la tension des lames de scie à ruban.
