In particular, at least one piece part 12 in the arrangement is formed to include means for concentrating a beam of radiation at a predetermined attachment location (or several locations). The concentrating means may be in the form of an aperture, such as a conical or parabolic opening, which will concentrate the radiation to the area of interest. Alternatively, if the piece part is transparent to the wavelength of the radiation, the concentrating means may be in the form of a lens or grating formed on the surface of the piece part.

    摘要: A current multiplication network includes a plurality of charge storage devices (e.g., transmission lines (TLs) or capacitors), connected to a power supply. During each time interval in which current is to be delivered to a load, the network is configured into two or more subsets of devices. A first subset (e.g., TL1) of devices is connected to the supply (12) and is charged. Essentially simultaneously, a second subset (e.g., TL2) of devices, is connected to the load (14) and is discharged into the load. The total charge 2Q delivered to the load in a given time interval is the sum of the charge Q delivered by the supply plus the charge Q delivered by the discharging subset, thereby providing the desired current multiplication. Other network configurations are also described.

    摘要: A data link (10) is disclosed which utilizes differential communication between pairs of transmitting (18,20) and receiving (26,28) devices. In particular, one device (18) of each pair is reserved for communicating a logic "0" and the other (20) is reserved for communicating a logic "1". The pairs are grouped to form an array which is capable of providing simultaneous parallel communication, at relatively low bit rates, between two equipment components (12,14). The communication may be either unidirectional or bidirectional between the components. The ability to integrate the arrays of transmitting and/or receiving electronics and optics allows for improved reliability of the system over a single fiber, high data rate, alternative.

    摘要: A method of mechanically mating two workpieces when one of the workpieces lacks physically matable surface characteristics. An adaptor is formed through crystallographic etching techniques and is precisely positioned and mounted to the surface of the workpiece lacking physical features in order to provide mechanical points of contact for mating with the other workpiece. Solder points are formed on the surface of the workpiece and the adaptor by photolithographic metalization. The adaptor is then solder bump mounted to the surface of the workpiece for highly precise positioning. The adaptor forms precisely positioned points of contact for mechanical mating with the physical features of the other workpiece.
