The invention relates to the transport and preferably to the electrically contacting of an article (1) to be treated, for example in the form of a printed circuit or a conductive foil, in an electrolytic system. The inventive device comprises a plurality of clips (10) which can be displaced along a transport path (4) and which are driven by a continuous revolving drive mechanism (20). The device is configured in such a manner that the clips (10), at the start (4a) of the transport path (4), are brought from an open condition into a closed condition in order to grip the article to be treated and preferably also in order to electrically contact it. The clips (10), at the end (4b) of the transport path (4), are brought from the closed into an open condition in order to release the article (1) to be treated. For this purpose, the clips (10) comprise a first clamping surface (19) which is provided on one side of the plane of transport (2), and a second clamping surface (17) which is provided o the opposite side of the plane of transport (2). The clips (10) are configured in such a manner that the first clamping surface (19) and the second clamping surface (17) are movable in relation to the plane of transport (2) in order to open or close the clips (10).
