摘要： In accordance with the invention, a laser includes a tunable grating incorporated within the laser cavity. The grating is configured to provide GVD at wavelengths far from the photonic bandgap thus providing GVD compensation and management of intracavity dispersion. The grating is operated in the transmission mode and is configured so that reflection from within the photonic bandgap does not significantly affect the lasing condition. The grating is tunable, permitting adjustment of the intracavity GVD. In a preferred embodiment, the grating is an apodized fiber Bragg grating within the cavity of a modelocked fiber laser. The GVD of the fiber grating can be tuned by axial strain.
