摘要: The invention is directed at a drill tool assembly (10) including a holder (12) having a shank (14) and a head portion (16) and having an axial centerline or rotational axis (18) on which said holder (12) is rotated in use. The head portion (16) includes a holder slot (30) at least over a central portion of the head, with the slot (30) being oriented perpendicularly to the axial centerline of the holder (12). The holder slot (30) also includes a locating boss (24). A drill insert (35) having first and second cutting surfaces is selectively positioned within the holder slot (30). Both the position of the boss (24) and corresponding position of the drill insert (35) and locating slot (30) with respect to the holder (12) to mimimize offset errors in these relative positions.

The present invention is provided by a drill comprising drill body (16) having at least two helical flutes (18), a pair of cutting surfaces on an end of the drill body (16), a web (36) formed between the two cutting edges (30), and a web thinning notch formed on either side of the web (36). Each notch forms a notch (40) cutting edge (44) having a positive rake angle.

摘要: The present invention provides a novel drill insert having chipbreakers, or chip splitting grooves formed through the cutting surface. The cutting tool insert has a specialised geometry including a chip splitting groove formed at a negative rake angle. The chip splitting grooves increase the cutting efficiency of the tool while allowing the edge strength to be increased while also allowing higher feed rates.
