Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroxy-hexanedioic acid esters by esterification of the corresponding di-lactones of 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroxy-hexanedioic acid with alcohol, to the novel 2,3,4,5-tetrahydroxy-hexanedioic acid esters obtainable according to said method, and to the use thereof as a surface-active compound.
