摘要： An internal combustion engine (12) comprises an energy storing mechanism (14) including at least one elastic member (60) loaded in response to rotation of a rotatable engine member (72). A ratchet member (142), disposed between the elastic member and engine member, rotates in a loading direction in response to rotation of the engine member. The elastic member is loaded in response to the rotation. A pawl (221) can engage with the ratchet member to selectively prevent the ratchet member rotating in an unloading direction opposite the loading direction, to selectively prevent unloading the elastic member. This engagement establishes a line of force, the pawl being positioned with respect to it to urge the pawl and ratchet member toward staying in engagement. A pawl carrier (209) carries the pawl and can remove it from engagement with the ratchet member and. The pawl carrier is positioned to urge the pawl carrier to disengage the pawl from the ratchet member.
