The present invention provides a method of controlling a continuous polymerization process where at least one olefin is polymerized in a polymerization reactor in the presence of a catalyst comprising a solid catalyst component further comprising a transition metal, and an activator, said method comprising the steps of: (i) providing a set point for the feed rate of said solid catalyst component into the polymerization reactor; (ii) providing a set point for a ratio of the activator feed rate to the solid catalyst component feed rate; (iii) controlling the feed rate of said solid catalyst component into the polymerization reactor to follow said set point for the feed rate of said solid catalyst component; (iv) calculating a set point for the feed rate of said activator from said set point for the feed rate of said solid catalyst component and said set point for the ratio of the activator feed rate to the solid catalyst component feed rate; (v) controlling the feed rate of said activator into the polymerization reactor to follow said set point for the feed rate of said activator. The present method results in a stable operation of the polymerization reactor and allows the production of polymers having consistent product properties.
