In the element substrate, plural element substrates each including printing elements are arrayed in an arrayed direction of the printing elements. Each element substrate including a wiring (107) for supplying a driving power to drive the printing elements, and a ground wiring (108) from the printing elements is configured as follows. Each element substrate includes a delay circuit (301) for delaying a heat enable signal to drive the printing elements and supplying it to each printing element, and a switchover (404) circuit for switching over, in accordance with a control signal, a delay sequence when supplying the heat enable signal to each printing element.

The printhead includes any one of voltage detecting means (108, 109, 110) for detecting at least one voltage among voltages at a node between a first power-supply wire (104) and a monitor resistor element (103), a node between the monitor resistor element and a driving element (102), and a node between the driving element and a second power-supply wire (105); and any one of current application means (901, 902, 903) for applying current to at least one of the nodes. At least one resistance is obtained, based upon applied current or detected voltage, from among resistance of the first and second power-supply wires, resistance of the monitor resistor element and resistance of the driving element, and the printhead is controlled based upon the resistance obtained.
