The invention concerns a method for producing paraxylene from a feedstock of hydrocarbons in an adsorption column working with a simulated moving bed at at least five areas and delivering an extract, a raffinate-2 and an intermediate raffinate. The extract is distilled, and the distillate is optionally recrystallized in order to recuperate paraxylene with a purity of at least 99.7%. The raffinate-2 is distilled and is then isomerized in a reactor preferably functioning in a liquid phase and at low temperature. The intermediate raffinate having an enriched content of ethylbenzene is distilled then isomerized in a vapor phase.
