An agricultural round baler (1) comprises a mechanism (30) for placing netwrap (41) over the edge of a cylindrical bale that is created in the baling chamber (24a). The mechanism includes a netwrap delivery assembly (50) having of a pair of arms (51) pivotally affixed to the outside of the baling chamber sidewalls (24). The arms hold an assembly frame (54). An actuator (70) controls the pivoting motion of the delivery assembly (50) inserting the netwrap between the stationary dimple roll (8) and the pivot roll (9) of the sledge assembly (26). Positioned outside the sidewall (24) and inside an outer frame member (25) is a transition area (90). The netwrap (41) is inserted between the stationary dimple roll (8) and the pivot roll (9) as well as into the transition area (90). Because the width of the delivery assembly (50) is wider than that of the cylindrical bale, a portion of the netwrap (41) is inserted over the edge of the bale by use of the transition area (90).

The bale size sensor (80) detects the position of the belt take up arm (51) by measuring distance between a fixed position and the take up arm (51) and a connected control unit (90) determines the size of the bale (100) within the bale-forming chamber (20).

An improved mechanism for directing movement of a plurality of side-by-side belts (20) in a round baler wherein a bale chamber (18) is optimally configured for bale core formation thereby reducing the need for an aggressive surface on the belts to initiate rotation of the incoming crop material. As the bale (100) expands, the improved mechanism enables the unguided span (20a,20b) of belts (20) surrounding the periphery of the bale to be minimized by positioning intermediate guide rolls (44,45) generally equidistantly from idler rolls (41,42) bounding the belt guides defining the bale forming chamber. Further, the improved mechanism reduces the friction force between the crop and the belts necessary to initiate crop rolling for bale core formation enabling smooth-surfaced belts to be used which reduce trash generation.

The pick-up assembly (14) has a reverse control apparatus (89) for reversing the direction of rotation of a conveying rotor (18) to disimpact any impacted plug of cut crop material from the rotor (18). The reverse control apparatus (89) can be operated remotely from a tractor (12) connected to the baler (10).
