The invention relates to a mechanism for a seat portion of a baby carriage, the seat portion including a seat floor (5) and a back rest (6) disposed at a rear portion of the seat floor (5), the mechanism including a pair of operating links (10), each having a central portion which is swingably pivoted to a lower end of a central portion disposed inside of the back rest (6); engaging rods (7) pivoted to ends of the operating links (10) such that the engaging rods (7) swing in a horizontal direction in accordance with a swinging operation of the operating links (10); a pair of receiving plates (8) respectively disposed on both ends of the seat floor (5), each of the receiving plates (8) having several spaced fitting holes for selectively receiving ends of the engaging rods (7) so as to provide a reclining operation of the seat portion; and a swing operating plate (13) attached to a lower end portion of the back rest (6) so as to be freely lifted, upper ends of the two operating links (10) being pivoted to the swing operating plate (13).

An operating mechanism (A) disposed on a handle bar (1) of a baby carriage for actuating locking mechanisms disposed at opposite ends of the handle bar (1) and which locks the handle bar (1) at a predetermined position or locks the baby carriage in a folded or an unfolded position. The handle bar (1) has a hollow tubular construction and is bent in a U-shape or an inverted U-shape as viewed from its front. The operating mechanism (A) includes a pair of slide members each of which is slidably disposed at the central portion of the handle bar, operating wires (4) inserted into the handle bar (1) each of the operating wires (4) having an upper end respectively retained by each of the slide members and a lower end attached to the locking mechanisms, and slide guide projections projecting from upper and lower sides of each of the slide members and an operating grip (a) rotably mounted on the surface of the handle bar (1) the operating grip (A) having U-shaped guide grooves formed therein into which the slide guide projections are received. In this manner, the slide members can slide in the horizontal directions in the handle bar (1)in response to rotation of the operating grips to thereby actuate the locking mechanisms.
