摘要： There is disclosed a catalyst, particularly a Friedel-Crafts alkylation catalyst, which comprises an aluminium halide of the formula AlX n R 3-n , where X is halogen preferably Cl, R is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, preferably methyl or ethyl, or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl, preferably phenyl and n is 1, 2 or 3, (preferably 2 or 3), chemically bonded to Hexagonal Mesoporous Silica (HMS) or derivitised HMS. Also disclosed are methods for the production of the catalyst and its use in alkylation reactions.
